Industrial Brush Rollers – Crafting Factory
Industrial brush rollers are core rotating consumables widely integrated into continuous production lines, delivering consistent cleaning, rust removal, surface finishing, polishing and scrubbing performance. At AstraRoll, we engineer premium custom brush rollers for worldwide industrial clients, serving steel processing, food processing, glass, textile, wood and surface treatment industries.

What Is an Industrial Brush Roller?
An industrial brush roller is a cylindrical brushing component built around a metal shaft. The shaft can be sleeved with plastic or nylon tubing, or cast directly with nylon / plastic material as the bristle carrier. Regular holes are drilled on this carrier base, where filaments are tufted firmly. Available bristle materials include nylon, plastic monofilament, metal wire, pig bristle, horsehair and natural sisal.
Brush Roller Manufacturing Processes (Steel Production Focus)
Brush rollers are mission-critical for hot-dip galvanizing, pickling and color coating lines in the steel sector. Three mainstream fabrication methods are adopted:
- Spiral winding type
- Inner welded assembly type
- Interlocking segmented brush disc assembly type
The interlocking design dominates for long service life. It is assembled from individual brush sleeves, keys, central shaft and end plates. Curved nylon or abrasive nylon filament (typically 0.5mm diameter) is formed into separate brush sleeves, stacked and pressed onto the roller shaft, then locked by keys and end flanges.
After assembly, the outer circumference of bristles is lathed uniformly. This well-structured design allows around 10% more brush sleeves to be fitted on the effective roller length, achieving higher bristle density and superior cleaning results. Final outer circle grinding and balancing extend runtime and reduce vibration during operation.
Main Types of Brush Rollers & Their Applications
1. Nylon Brush Rollers
Made from high-elasticity, wear-resistant and heat-resistant 1010 nylon. Food-grade non-toxic nylon is widely used in fruit & vegetable washing lines. Thanks to excellent elasticity and temperature tolerance, they are also popular for textile printing & dyeing, glass washing and general industrial cleaning.
2. Abrasive Nylon Brush Rollers
Impregnated with silicon carbide / diamond grit, abrasive filaments outperform standard nylon on wear resistance. With acid & alkali resistance, they are specified for steel plate pre-treatment, rust removal, galvanizing lines and color coating production.
3. Metal Wire Brush Rollers
Heavy-duty option for steel mills, plate processing and coating workshops, for heavy rust scale and stubborn oxide removal.
4. Sisal Brush Rollers
Natural sisal fibre delivers consistent matte sanding and polishing. Commonly used for wood panel rough sanding before coating, plus tile surface polishing.
5. Horsehair Brush Rollers
A premium upgraded brush solution with balanced wear and corrosion resistance. It is widely used for delicate finishing work: leather treatment, floor polishing, waxing and sealing glaze.
6. Plastic Filament Brush Rollers
Suitable for cleaning and polishing stainless steel strips, copper strips, thin copper sheet descaling, oxide removal after blackening treatment, pipe surface deburring. Heavy-duty plastic brush rollers are also used for snow removal on highways and urban roads.
Pre-Operation Notes for Brush Rollers
Brush rollers are custom engineered assemblies. Confirm filament material, bristle length, density and shaft specification before installation. Check for loose tufting, shaft runout and unbalance before startup. Improper loading, chemical mismatch or over-speed rotation will shorten service life and risk line contamination.
